SCHWEIZER TO KIMBERLEY CYCLING TOUR – EVENT RULES

1. Participation Requirements

  • All cyclists must be officially registered before the event.
  • Riders must be 18 years or older, unless written consent is provided by a parent/guardian.
  • Each participant must sign the Indemnity & Commitment Form before starting.

2. Safety & Equipment

  • Helmets are compulsory at all times while riding.
  • Bicycles must be roadworthy and checked before departure.
  • No earphones, Bluetooth speakers, or devices that block hearing.
  • High‑visibility clothing or reflective strips are recommended.
  • Riders must obey instructions from marshals, support staff, and SAPS escorts.

3. Road Conduct

  • Ride in a single file unless otherwise instructed.
  • Keep to the left side of the road at all times.
  • No overtaking of the lead vehicle unless authorised.
  • Respect other road users and maintain discipline throughout the route.

 

4. Hydration & Nutrition Stops

  • Official stops will take place approximately every 50 km.
  • Riders must use the designated stop areas for hydration, nutrition, and rest.
  • No littering — dispose of waste at the support vehicles or bins provided.

 

5. Medical & Emergency Protocol

  • A medical support team will be available along the route.
  • Any rider feeling unwell must immediately inform a marshal or support staff.
  • In case of an emergency, the ride may be paused for safety reasons.
  • Riders must comply with all OHS and emergency instructions.

 

6. Behaviour & Conduct

  • Respect fellow cyclists, support staff, and community members along the route.
  • No aggressive behaviour, intoxication, or misconduct will be tolerated.
  • The organisers reserve the right to remove any participant who compromises safety.

 

7. Support Vehicles

  • Only authorised support vehicles may follow the group.
  • Riders may not hold onto or draft behind vehicles.
  • Mechanical assistance will be provided at designated points.

 

8. Time Management

  • Riders must depart with the group at the official start time.
  • Delays caused by individual riders will not hold up the event.
  • Cut‑off times may be applied for safety reasons.

 

9. Weather & Route Changes

  • The organisers may adjust the route or schedule due to weather, road conditions, or safety concerns.
  • All participants will be informed of changes as soon as possible.

 

10. Completion & Finish Area

  • Riders must check in at the finish point for safety verification.
  • Medals/certificates (if applicable) will be issued after verification.
  • Riders must return any borrowed equipment or race numbers.

 

11. Indemnity

By participating, riders acknowledge that cycling carries inherent risks and agree to follow all safety instructions. The organisers, sponsors, and partners are not liable for injuries, loss, or damage arising from the event.
